What Does An Ultrasound Do?

An ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the inside the body. When it comes to determining whether you are pregnant, these sound waves are able to detect if there is fetus inside your uterus, if there is a heartbeat and determine how far along you are.

Miscarriages

An ultrasound can also determine whether you might miscarry. According to WebMD, about 15 to 25 percent of recognized pregnancies will end in a miscarriage. The majority of miscarriages occur during the first 13 weeks of pregnancy

Ectopic Pregnancies

An ectopic pregnancy, sometimes referred to as an extrauterine pregnancy, is a pregnancy that develops outside of the uterus – typically in the fallopian tubes. When a fertilized egg implants anywhere other than the uterus, it can cause serious health complications. A fertilized egg cannot survive outside the uterus, and if the egg continues to grow, it can cause damage to nearby organs.  An ultrasound can help detect this condition and we can refer you for immediate medical assistance if this occurs.
